Description: The Washington Department of Natural Resources’ Commercial Real Estate Program identifies and manages the areas known as Commercial Transition Lands. Parcels may be identified as belonging on this list if they meet of the following criteria: 1. Lands that are currently managed for natural resource production that could yield a higher economic return from conversion to commercial real estate are known as transition lands
2. Areas that meet the criteria under #1 and/or have met the following additional conditions are known as urban lands. These lands have either:
a. been designated as “urban” by local land use plans; or
b. are authorized for commercial, industrial or residential uses by local government; or c. have capital improvements or services that exist or are scheduled to be available
This layer displays the location and designation of each property as either transition or urban. The layer also includes additional information about the properties such as their zoning, majority land cover, and whether or not they are ready to be transacted (developed, sold, or exchanged). These lands were identified according the principles outlined in the Transition Lands Policy Plan1. 1 Washington State Department of Natural Resources. (1988). Transition Lands Policy Plan.
